Direct Download / USB Install
NOTE
This page offers a way to download data files for add-ons you’ve already purchased / are interested in purchasing in order to save mobile bandwidth or work around connection errors. It does not offer a way to actually purchase add-ons through our website; due to Apple’s rules, that purchase can only happen on your iPhone / iPod / iPad and so still requires an internet connection. See this page for add-on pricing info and this page for purchasing instructions.
Introduction
This process is still a bit more complicated than downloading add-ons directly through the Add-ons tab, so if you have a perfectly good internet connection on your iPhone / iPod / iPad we’d recommend that you simply use that, but the files should work exactly the same if installed via this method. Our copy-protection system is independent of our data files, so there’s no need to log in or do anything else to generate files specifically for your device; just download them once and they’ll work on any device that’s licensed to use them (or, in the case of free add-ons, on any device with an up-to-date copy of Pleco). Paid add-ons will work in demo mode if they haven’t been purchased yet.
Instructions
- Click on one of the links below to download the desired add-on file. If your web browser attempts to open the file instead of saving it, right-click on the download link and choose the “Save As” option in the menu that pops up.DO NOT UNZIP THE FILES – you’ll be copying them over to your device directly as .zip archives. If you’re using Safari as your web browser, choose “Preferences” from the “Safari” menu and uncheck the “Open safe files after downloading” box in the General tab before downloading these files – otherwise, they may not download correctly. (you can re-check it after you’ve finished downloading the files)
- Connect your iPhone / iPod / iPad to your desktop and open up iTunes. If it comes up to the iTunes Store, click on “Library” at the top right corner of the screen. You should see a button with your device’s name on it at the top right corner of the screen; click on that, and click on the “Apps” tab at the top of the screen.
- Select “Pleco” from the box near the bottom of the screen (“Apps,” under “File Sharing”), click on “Add…,” and select the file you downloaded to copy it over. You can also just drag the file into the list of files under “Pleco Documents.”
- Open up Pleco, tap on the menu button at the top left corner of the screen to open up the sidebar, and tap on “File Manager” (near the bottom).
- Tap on each file you transferred to install and activate it. (no need to exit and reopen Pleco first)
If you encounter any problems with the above instructions, contact us and we’ll be glad to help.
