How to Find your PlecoDict 1.0 "Device ID"

To obtain the Device ID for your Palm OS handheld or smartphone, you must first install the demo version of our PlecoDict software, available for download here. If you encounter any problems during installation, feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to assist you.

Once you've successfully installed PlecoDict, to obtain your device ID you'll need to open it (by tapping on the PlecoDict icon in the application launcher), then go to the "Ordering" screen, accessible through the "Help" menu (or by tapping on the "Ordering" button in the dialog that appears when you start PlecoDict).

If you don't know how to access the menu bar, on most Palm OS handhelds you can get to it by tapping on the Menu button located at the lower left corner of the silkscreened Graffiti area below your Palm's display. On large-screen models like the Tungsten T3 and T5 the menu button may appear with a row of other buttons at the bottom of the screen, and on keyboard-equipped models like the Treo 600/650/680/700p/755p/Centro, Tungsten C, and Clie TG50 there's a separate hardware menu button - it's below the keyboard on the Treo 600 and Tungsten C, above the keyboard on the Treo 650, and on the TG50 it's a little round button on the left side of that row of buttons between the screen and the keyboard and you have to hold it down (pressing it quickly accesses an entirely different function).

Once you get to the Ordering screen, it'll look something like this (without the red rectangle):

Enter the Device ID exactly as shown. Device ID's are auto-correcting, so if you make a mistake our online store will catch it before you place your order.

The device ID in version 1.0 of PlecoDict is NOT tied to your Palm OS handheld's serial number, but only to its HotSync Username, so you generally won't need a new keyfile if you change devices as long as you retain the same username.
